Leaning…

Lately, I have been hearing a lot about the book Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg.  I heard a story about it on NPR (a couple of different programs), on my favorite morning program Good Morning, America, on a friend’s Facebook posting, and a conversation overheard at work.  Since it seemed to be current topic of conversation, I thought I would check it out.  First, I went to the website www.leanin.org (basically because it was free).  The first thing that caught my eye, and which I want to learn more about, are the Lean In Circles.  According to Gina Bianchini, the these circles “are small groups that come together to share and learn together as you pursue your personal and professional goals.”  I loved this idea!  It is something that anyone of any profession should do.  As a teacher, I know that there is a lot out there I don’t know, and I need to continue to learn in order to help my students to do the same.  Yes, I do subscribe to the idea of people being ‘life-long learners.’

There are other articles to read, but those will have to wait until after I finish reading the book.  There is something about being able to go to the ‘Store’ in my jammies and being able to purchase and download a book in less than a minute that makes it way too easy to do so.  For someone who loves to read, I am not so sure a Kindle is a good thing.  It is like leaving candy out on a table and telling a child they can have just one – then leaving the room!  They don’t just stop at one (not my kids at least).  Well, neither can I!  Now, I have a book to read and a blog entry written.

Guess what I am going to do next!

(OK, I feel like I should cite my sources…click on the author’s name to go to the original source.  I guess I have been part of the plagiarism police for too long!)

  1. Great post! I saw a part of an interview about the group. I will be checking the website. We all need people in our circle. Our “peeps.”
