Rock? Classical? Jazz? Hard Rock? Country?

Today was spent sitting at my desk and updating the website for our department.  I have to admit, I am tired of staring at the computer screen and typing today.  However, since what I was doing was sort of creative, I decided to listen to music in order to boost my creative juices a bit.  The difficult part was trying to figure out what to listen to.  My office door is open, so anyone walking by would hear the music playing because I am not one to carry headphones around. (Yes, I know my age is showing.)  I tried some country music and then some jazz music, but these didn’t seem appropriate.  Then, I decided to do what many people do nowadays, I typed in a search engine, “Music for Work.”  Up popped the site focus@will.com.  I decided to try it.  After all, it mentioned the words ‘neuroscience’ and ‘free.’  Not that I am totally hooked on the music, but the music was nice – not distracting and appropriate for the workplace.  Did it make me concentrate better for focus longer?  Not sure about that, but at least, I was able to get what I needed to done.  There is a lot of different types of instrumental music to listen to, so I would listen for 60 minutes, and when that selection was over, it would stop.  Then, I would take a break.  I have to admit, I did not watch the clock as much, and I did get the chance to get up and move around every hour – which probably helped me in the long run.  Would I use it again, why not!?

Now, time for the weekend!  Have a great one!

  1. Interesting thoughts. I sometimes listen to classical music while I’m planning on Sunday afternoons. Something different for me!

  2. I never thought of doing that…checking for Music for Work. I am sure my co-workers got tired of the CD music that came from my office. (yes, I am really showing my age. 🙂 ) So…when I have writer’s block for the Slice of Life…I think I will try focus@will.com. Sounds like a good plan. Thanks. Jackie http://familytrove.blogspot.com/
