I recently had experience with a relative needing rehabilitation due to a hip replacement.  The experience has not been positive. The first place his son removed him from because the staff was painting the walls of his room and replacing the sink in his room the first two days he was there.  A request was made to open the window because of the fumes, to which he was told the staff didn’t know how. He was moved to another place.

At this second place, he was given food he had been told by his doctor to avoid and given sleeping pills that no doctor had prescribed.  The only reason he stayed was because of the physical therapist who he liked.

My relative is fortunate because he has people who have spoken up for him. They pushed until he was moved from the first place to the second, and now his relatives are pushing again so that he receives the right medication and food.

No, my little slice of life is not a positive one, but it is one I want to remember and to share – we must look out for each other. We must be an advocate for anyone who is not able to speak up for him or hersef.

  1. I am sorry to hear that your relative is going through so many changes and moves. I hope and pray that he find the right place where he will get the care he needs. 🙂
