Thoughts on Work

Filed under: Uncategorized — mvervinck @ 12:50 am

Today was one of those days that was just too short.  I need more hours in the day!  I love my job working with international students, and I enjoy teaching.  Doing both, though, can be difficult and very stressful.  I know what I want to accomplish and have a vision for both parts of my working life, but that vision is often clouded by the reality of too little time to do it all.  Where do I draw the line?  Where do I say, “That’s all I can do, and it has be to good enough.”  I am struggling with that.

I know that I work too many hours, but isn’t that the life of a teacher?  Grading papers, writing tests, and answering emails are all part of my evening routine.  I’m not sure if people who are not teachers understand the long hours and time that teachers put into teaching.  I’m not really sure I could adjust to this way of life.

Well, off to grade or write something!

  1. I hope you find some time for “you” during your evening routine of grading, writing, and emails.

  2. I sympathize, as I am feeling the same way! While I hope you make it a point to make some time for yourself, I also hope that you know how noble your work actually is. Here’s to the teachers!!!!!

  3. Self care and balance are elusive to educators. The pace of life we lead is insane, and sometimes we just have to jump off the crazy train and say, “Enough is enough!” Get some rest. Tomorrow is a new day.
