Slice of Life

Back at the Office

The last time I was in my office at the university where I am an administrator and teacher was in November 2021 – 3 months ago. Since then, I have been in the hospital and then worked from home for six weeks. Being back is a bit bittersweet. I am happy that I am healthy enough to return and that COVID numbers are trending downward; however, I did enjoy working from home when I was feeling better. I may be in the minority, but working from home just is better for me.

I spent most of my day in my office today working on getting ready to start a new term. This meant lots of emails and lots of spreadsheets. It also meant lots of staying in one room and sitting in my chair. Now, I work with my door closed and by myself. The office outside my door is quiet without students coming and going.

Students are on Mid-Winter break – no classes this week. Looking outside, there are not the groups of students walking and talking. There are a few, but for the most part, it is quiet on campus. I hope that next week when classes start back up again that it changes. I hope to see people again.

For now, though, I silently sit in my office and will type on.
